Flax seed oil, or linseed oil, is oil extracted from an omega 3 flax seed. This clear to light yellow-colored oil is acquired by cold pressing batches of omega 3 flax seed then usually accompanied by solvent extraction. Flax seed oil is edible and it has shown to provide many nutritional benefits to human beings. Thus, flax seed oil is widely promoted as a nutritional source for human beings.

Cold pressing is applied to wholesale flaxseed and made available for public consumption as flax seed oil. Fresh and plainly cold pressed flax seed oil, without other means of chemical processing or solvent extraction, is its most beneficial form as a nutritional supplement. Flax seed oil has very high contents of omega 3 fatty acids, same with its original form. Flax seed oil specifically contains Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA), a particular variant of omega 3 fatty acids.

The omega 3 fatty acids content of flax seed oil has been said to reduce inflammatory diseases, prevent arrhythmia and heart conditions, and proven beneficial for infant development. Recent type of flax seed oil contains approximately 60% ALA but researches are being pushed through to increase ALA content to 70%. A higher ALA content is deemed to be ideal for greater nutritional benefits. Flax seed oil, even with its increased ALA content, is considered safe for direct human consumption.
